Discover surface imperfections with 3M™ Dry Guide Coat. Our Dry Guide Coat requires no masking before use and has no dry time after application. It highlights defects such as pinholes in body filler and deep scratches in primer. Find pinholes in body filler and deep scratches in primer with 3M™ Dry Guide Coat. Our Dry Guide Coat helps to detect the smallest surface imperfections in the dry primer sanding process. It requires no masking before use and has no dry time after application. When sanding polyester filler, our Dry Guide Coat helps to visualise and ensure the filler is flat with no ripples and body styling lines and contours are straight and correct. It ensures the total primed area is sanded prior to top coating. Use for both wet and dry sanding. Dry Guide Coat contains no solvents.

Body Fillers And Adhesives

The 3M™ Panel Bonding Adhesive is a two-part epoxy used to bond steel, aluminium, SMC, and FRP (traditional fiberglass). The primary use is to replace quarter panels, roofs, box sides, van sides, utility vehicle sides and door skins. The result of years of development and testing, our 3M™ Panel Bonding Adhesive bonds and seals plastic and metal substrates including cold roll steel, aluminum, SMC, and FRP (traditional fiberglass). It is ideal for bonding quarter panels, roofs skins, box sides, van sides, utility vehicle sides and door skins – anywhere that requires a lasting bond for outer body panels, without the added time and expense of riveting or welding. In fact, adhesive bonding can be a time and money-saving replacement for many collision repair jobs that have traditionally required welding or riveting. Many interior or other adjacent parts that must be removed to avoid damage from welding can remain installed when bonding. Note: Panel Bonding Adhesive should only be used to bond structural components such as pillars, rockers or frame members when specified by an OEM (Example: Aluminum Ford F-150). Unless specified by an OEM, structural components should be welded. Efficient Application Two-part panel bonding adhesive is available from 3M in cartridges from 50 mL to 400 mL, and works seamlessly with 3M manual applicator guns such as 08117 and the 3M pneumatic applicator gun 09930 for the 200ml cartridges. It applies quickly from the cartridge with no pre-mixing or measuring. The adhesive contains glass beads which reduces excessive squeeze-out and makes it easy to form consistent bondlines. A work time of up to two hours and the added heat-assisted on-demand curing allows for accurate application, squeeze-out sealing and cleanup. The bonding adhesive also has an excellent shelf life even after it’s been opened, reducing the cost of replacing unused product. The Benefits of Bonding vs. Welding Bonding adhesive maximizes shop time, as it can be used quickly and conveniently for many applications where welding or riveting have traditionally been the best options. Technicians can save time by welding only where adhesive peel failure or ghost lines are a concern, and achieve better results by bonding in areas where sheet metal can warp during the welding process. You can even resistance spot weld directly through uncured adhesive for areas where a weld can add stability. The bonding adhesive contains corrosion inhibitors to resists corrosion much better than welds or rivets, helping to extend the life of the body panel repair. Note: Panel Bonding Adhesive should only be used to bond structural components such as pillars, rockers or frame members when specified by an OEM (Example: Aluminum Ford F-150). Unless specified by an OEM, structural components should be welded. Better Science for Better Bonding from 3M 3M™ Panel Bonding Adhesive is the result of years of laboratory development and field testing. Our scientists pioneered “bondline control” in the collision repair market, incorporating glass beads into our adhesive formula that work as built-in spacers for optimal bond line thicknesses. Our adhesive cartridges, together with our manual and pneumatic applicator guns and mixing nozzles, form a system that eliminates pre-mixing or measuring of two-part epoxies. The ability to bond effectively results in a more versatile, cost-effective shop.

Body Fillers And Adhesives

Bondo® Body Filler shapes in minutes and will accept as many reasonably applied applications as required to fill holes and deep scratches or dents. It is formulated to be non-shrinking and permanently durable. Once it has completely hardened — normally in 25 minutes or less — Bondo® Body Filler can be sanded using various grits to achieve as smooth a finish as required. In addition to its uses in repairs of typical vehicle surfaces, the filler is also suitable for repairing other surfaces including wood (PDF, 20.55 Mb), steel, aluminum, fiberglass, and concrete. Bondo® Body Filler products include directions that help you easily create just the right mix for your auto repair job and allow for same-day repairs. Bondo® Original Filler instructions: Step 1: Clean all surfaces with soap and water followed by a low VOC compliant cleaner. Allow to dry. Step 2: Sand the damaged area with 80 grit sandpaper to remove all paint, primer, and rust down to bare metal. Sand 1-2 inches beyond damaged area. Clean again with a low VOC compliant cleaner. Step 3: Stir the filler before using. Knead the hardener tube. For a 3-inch diameter puddle of filler, squeeze out a 3” long strip of hardener. This is the maximum recommended amount to mix at any given time for optimal application. Mix thoroughly to a uniform color on a clean, non-porous surface. When product is mixed, the working time is 3-4 minutes. Do not add hardener directly into the filler container. Step 4: Spread an initial thin layer of the mixed filler over the repair area using firm pressure to ensure maximum adhesion. Apply additional layers of filler as needed. Allow filler to cure 20 minutes. Step 5: Rough shape the filler with 80 grit sandpaper. Finish sand with 180 grit and finer. Featheredge the repair. Wait 45 minutes and apply 2-3 coats of primer to cover the repair area. Step 6: Apply Bondo® Glazing and Spot Putty to fill in small imperfections and re-prime with 2-3 coats. Follow paint manufacturer’s recommendation for priming and final finishing. For best results apply at 45°F (7°C) or above. Do not put mixed filler back in the can. Clean tools with acetone or lacquer thinner. Help line: 08048047452 Use During the Fill Stage of the 3M™ Body Repair System Even a small repair can seem complex at first. So 3M's Body Repair System simplifies the entire automotive body repair process by dividing it into four stages: Stage 1 — Prepare. This stage includes pulling dents, removal of paint and rust and efficient, effective masking of the area. Stage 2 — Fill. This stage involves patching holes with reinforced filler and smoothing and shaping filler before painting. Stage 3 — Paint. This stage includes painting the area and blending and smoothing primer and paint. Stage 4 — Finish. The final stage for showroom-grade results: removing small defects, sealing and polishing clear coats and other painted surfaces.
